As Global recession and layoffs are saturating the headlines, many people are feeling really anxious and facing anxious moments due to the recent and anticipated layoffs. If you are expecting to be laid off, the following 10 tips will help you manage your stress, organize your life and prepare you to face the future with confidence.

1. Be sure to obtain as much information as you can about the status of your job.

2. Start to save money and cut back on your spending. You might start writing lists of what you really; really need to purchase, limit driving to conserve on gas and try to stick to a budget as much as you can.

3. Start revising your resume; list all your duties, strengths, accomplishments, which you have experienced in your current job. This is the time to find someone to update your resume for you if you need assistance.

4. Maintain positive interactions at work and remember everyone is going through the stress of what will happen whether they are laid off or stay. Managers are just the bearers of bad news; they too are stressed out and not happy about letting people go. You will need references, job option ideas, networking opportunities from your current colleagues and managers, so it is important you keep those relationships clean.

5. Start talking to your spouse, family, and friends about possibly losing your job. The recession and layoffs are affecting most people, so do not be embarrassed to speak to family and friends for help.

6. Find ways to relieve stress and take care of yourself. Go for walks, exercise, attend church or visit friends who uplift your spirits and are forward thinkers who can help you think ahead not complain about your situation.

7. Join business/ social clubs to increase your chances of networking.

8. Start doing an inventory of what you enjoy doing, because this could be that push you needed to start your own business. A business could be as small as tutoring high school kids before college entry exams to business coaching so do not be discouraged thinking you have to come up with big ideas.

9. Take care of any health appointments, checkups and consider seeking counseling or career coaching.

10. Start volunteering in places that you might be interested in working, assess for any gaps in services that might be an opportunity for you to fill as an employee or through your own business.
