Anyone who has ever played Scrabble or any other similar word game knows how it is to always be on the lookout for high scoring words. Of course, for many Scrabble players, this type of opportunity doesn’t always come along. Most of us make do with what our poor memories can recall. That is, unless you had several tricks up your sleeve. Coupled with good strategic moves, one of the best ways to build high scoring words in most word games is to have a very wide vocabulary. Scrabble experts around the world don’t always rely on knowing the different strategies you can use to win a game. But all of them highly depend on the list of words they’ve committed to memory to help them earn a large number of points on each move. Thus, for any Scrabble player looking to score big, the trick is to know words that start with X, Z, and the rest of the high value letters in the game. Now, not all of us can work on memorizing all of that. After all, not everyone has such a good memory and most importantly, who has the time? Factoring in time, effort, and brain cells, the best thing for you to do would be to learn the least amount of words that will give you high scoring results – words that start with X. Why words starting with X? Why not Q or Z as both of these have a 10-point value? First of all, the letter X is the third least frequently used letter in the English language. This means that there are only a handful of words that start with X compared to Z and Q. Thus, it will take considerably less time to learn them. In addition, although the letter X is not equal in value to the letters Q and Z, it still has a higher value in comparison to the other letters. Just using this letter alone adds 8 points to your score. Another reason why words that start with X is the best way to go is simply because it tends to be one of the most underappreciated letters in any Scrabble game. Most casual players avoid the letter X simply because of its rare usage. Compared to Z and Q, most players are hard-pressed to think of words with that lonely letter. Thus, if it were already on the board, you have an opening that most players would ignore. And should you be lucky enough that your opponent places it near a premium square such as the Triple Word Score, knowing several X words can potentially win you the game. Lastly, knowing what words start with X can help you out of a tough spot in any Scrabble-like game. We all know that towards the end of the game, any high value letters on your rack should be disposed of quickly lest you be unfortunate enough to be caught holding one once the game finishes. If you know the five most important X words, you will never encounter a situation like this. These are AX, OX, EX, XI, and XU. Even if you only know the last two, it can make the disposal of that particular letter so much easier. The exoticism of the letter X often deters people from seeing the great value it brings. Just by learning a handful of words that start with X, a Scrabble player can turn an opportunity to score from good to golden.
